1st, 2nd and 3rd periods- read this information on critique then please do this activity. Continue to scan your pinhole photos. Work on tessellation if it is not done.
Fourth period - pinhole photos - The assignment is open but I expect that you be creative and do your best to keep the camera steady.
You may want to try a double exposure. My only advice is to avoid very bright things like the sky as they will burnout any details from the other exposure. I would take pictures of objects in the shade using longer exposure times.

Tuesday

Finish any pinhole scanning

I will give a demonstration on how to crop and straighten your scanned photos.

I will also give a demonstration on how to edit your photos and to add color to them

Wed/Thurs

Tuesday

We will be learning some tips on achieving a better composition in your images.

Composition is achieving a balance of art elements and principles to create an image that reveals your subject in an aesthetically pleasing way that has impact. There are many "rules" that can help guide your decisions when you are setting up your photographs.

Here is a group of links that briefly discuss a few of these rules. We will go over some of this today together, some of it you may need to read on your own.

The more you know the better your final images will look.

Great composition can make the most mundane subjects pop.

Go on the internet and find photographic examples (one good and one bad) for Rule of thirds, leading lines, fill the frame, and unique viewpoint. They do not have to be big images.
Save the images to the server in the folder called Composition. Make a folder inside with your last name and save your images into it. Name the images by the rule they are using or breaking. 16 point written work grade (2 per image)

Wednesday/Thursday

We will be loading paper into our pinhole cameras and going to Veterans park to take our first photographs today.
If you come to class late that is where we might be.

Tips to getting better photos-
  1. Today we will just try to get a good photo of a still object. This could be a tree, building, car, pine cone, something you bring, etc. I do not want pictures of people today.
  2. Think about your composition. Is the camera close enough to the subject?
  3. What will be in the background? can you use it to enhance the subject?
  4. Look at the light, is your subject lit well, is the background in the shade or very bright.
  5. Use a brick or heavy rock to keep your camera steady
  6. expose your image for the recommended time.

We will return to class and in an orderly way, process the images.
You will need to record the results of your image to the chart. Record whether your camera was in the sun or shade, and whether your subject was in the sun or shade. How far away was your subject? How long was your exposure? What were your results, over or under exposed?

Friday

Check out the results from day 1, critique the montage assignment, hang art in hallway.
